Family members providing support
Known as "informal supports", where available, it is reasonable to expect family members to provide support to clients as part of their family/ parental responsibilities. Paid Support Workers are engaged to provide additional support when necessary. However, under exceptional circumstances the NDIA will consider funding an informal support on a case-by-case basis. Please refer to the NDIS Operational Guidelines section 11 here: https://www.ndis.gov.au/about-us/operational-guidelines/including-specific-types-supports-plans-operational-guideline/including-specific-types-supports-plans-operational-guideline-sustaining-informal-supports If after reviewing the guideline and you believe your informal support should be considered to be funded by your plan, I suggest making a submission for approval to: enquiries@ndis.gov.au

NDIS funds supports which are related to your disability, value for money, effective and beneficial and most appropriately funded or provided by NDIS.
The supports must meet ALL of the criteria below to be considered reasonable & necessary: - the support is related to your disability - the support will help you pursue your goals and aspirations - the support will help you undertake activities that will increase your social and economic participation - the support is value for money, which means that the costs are reasonable: + when compared to the benefits to be achieved, for example, whether purchasing the support is likely to reduce the cost of funding other supports in the long term + when compared to alternative options that may provide you with the same outcome at a similar or cheaper cost - the support is likely to be effective and beneficial for you, having regard to good practice and evidence - the support is required to complement the informal supports you have available, by taking into account what is reasonable for families, carers, informal networks and the community to provide - the support is most appropriately funded or provided by the NDIS - the support is not more appropriately funded by another service system, agency, person or body, such as the education system or the health system. file:///C:/Users/invoi/Downloads/OG%20Reasonable%20and%20Necessary%20PDF.pdf 23/4/21 The recent NDIS Price Guide has stated that Food Preparation and Meal Delivery must be a stated item in your NDIS plan.
We have been advised that participants currently using their core budget for this item, can continue to to do so until their next plan review, when the item MUST be stated in the new plan. At the plan review, if the support item is deemed reasonable and necessary, supported by a letter from a therapist or GP, the item will be stated in the plan. Some NDIS aware providers of meal deliveries include (note only the food preparation & delivery charges are NDIS funded - food cost is participant responsibility): https://www.liteneasy.com.au/ndis/ https://alifeplus.com.au/ https://gourmetmeals.com.au/ https://kinela.com/ https://nourishd.com.au https://www.qmow.org/ https://www.eatreal.net.au/ Please note that it's the responsibility of Providers to prepare their own invoices. Some clients assist Providers by preparing their invoices and send them to DPM for payment. This practice will no longer be acceptable. Please advise all your Providers that they should prepare their own invoices and send directly to DPM or to you for checking and forwarding on. Should there be any issues with this request, please contact us. Want to learn more about the disability sector and better understand the challenges that people living with a disability face day-to-day? Well, there is a free eLearning course that you can do through Disability Awareness: https://disabilityawareness.com.au/elearning/?doing_wp_cron=1606341011.6922578811645507812500 "The promotion of disability awareness in our workplaces and communities is vital in establishing a society where people with disability are valued and included. For much of history, people with disability have experienced discrimination and stigma, often primarily associated with society’s misconceptions about their ability." This feedback was recently received by a support worker, which is a good example of how support workers can work alongside children under NDIS to learn and perform domestic duties, such as cooking and cleaning, supported under NDIS. My teen daughter had her first official day with a support worker today. When I got home I was so blown away. They had cleaned her room, done washing together, she showed her how to use the dryer and they'd folded her clothes and put them away together. My daughter said mum I had so much fun today. She's such a lovely caring lady, I just wanted to share. My daughter refuses to do a anything for me. Its was so lovely to see such a caring support worker. Plan management refers to the financial administration of a participant’s NDIS plan on a participant’s behalf.
This service will assist: • managing and monitoring a participant’s budget in accordance with the plan management service agreement for the duration of the NDIS plan • managing the NDIS claims and disbursing funds to providers for delivered services • maintaining records for a participant and producing regular (at least monthly) statements for participants showing the financial status of a participant’s plan, and • providing access as required to a wider range of service providers, including non-registered providers, while ensuring compliance with the price limits contained within the NDIS Price Guide. Plan management funding is included in a participant’s plan, but is separate to the reasonable and necessary funding of a participant’s NDIS disability supports.
