Psychosocial disability is a term used to describe a disability that may arise from a mental health issue.  Psychosocial recovery coaches (recovery coaches) are now available to support participants with psychosocial disabilities to live a full and contributing life by supporting participants to take more control of their lives and to better manage the complex challenges of day-to-day living.

NDIS have likened the role to a mixture of Support Coordinator/Support Worker - where the Recovery Coach works with the participants and their network to design, plan and implement a recovery plan, and assist with the coordination of NDIS and other supports. This usually includes breaking the goals down into smaller achievable milestones, and taking the participant to appointments/activities to build confidence.
Coaches can either have lived experience or learnt knowledge of mental health (or mixture).

DPM has a Psychosocial Recovery Coach - Marie Olsen -  who has recently completed her qualification in this area, and has both training in mental health and lived experience with mental health.
