Family members providing support
Known as "informal supports", where available, it is reasonable to expect family members to provide support to clients as part of their family/ parental responsibilities. Paid Support Workers are engaged to provide additional support when necessary. However, under exceptional circumstances the NDIA will consider funding an informal support on a case-by-case basis. Please refer to the NDIS Operational Guidelines section 11 here: https://www.ndis.gov.au/about-us/operational-guidelines/including-specific-types-supports-plans-operational-guideline/including-specific-types-supports-plans-operational-guideline-sustaining-informal-supports If after reviewing the guideline and you believe your informal support should be considered to be funded by your plan, I suggest making a submission for approval to: enquiries@ndis.gov.au
